Creating a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger

The TEMA/UHX tab is used to specify what type of shell and tube heat exchanger to build. First you select the TEMA front, shell and rear types that you want to use and then you can specify the particular UHX type that you want to use.

TEMA designated exchanger type description can be found in the TEMA standards book. UHX calculation procedure and description are found in the ASME Code book. Currently heat exchanger tubesheets are required to be designed per ASME methods. The design methods apply to fully tubed tubesheets. Where there are significant flat spots for example, which are found in no-tube-in-window baffles, the designer is referred to UG 2 of the ASME Code which allows special design methods. Some designers use the TEMA method for this purpose.
